Once A Pondered Time

i reach for
the raspberry
pink towel
thick
soft
draw back my hand
no

take instead
the gray and
red striped rag

dry
old loyal legs
and question
the choice

as if
this was
the first time
i said
no
to the
good towel

but
why
should i
get the towel

i pick
the oldest
yogurt from
refrigerator shelf
and
lift only
shriveled
strawberries
from
the bowl

no
no one ever said
don't eat the good ones

i wonder when
i began
to think
i was
not deserving
saved
the best for
everyone but
me

this stupid
subtle
sacrifice
is not the kind of
thing
that announces
itself

but all
the small denials
cling and
clog pores
with awful
inferiority

must be
high time
to exfoliate
this nonsense
so late
coming to
my attention

tomorrow
i'll
pick
the yogurt closest
not even
glance at
expiration dates

take a
strawberry,
plump
shiny
thank my
good self
with a
lemon verbena
soak

drying off
i may not
hold the
raspberry towel
no
not yet

but
these old
loyal legs
will get me
to it
yes

...I know...I have gone before you
.....and hell, woman...use that damn towel
then cover your body with sweet smelling lotion
slip your polished toes into cute heeled slippers...maybe some with feathers on them..hee hee
    and strut

  2. I think the strutting might be long in coming, but yep, there are daily epiphanies, albeit sometimes scrawny but... better to dawn than lie dormant, right?

  4. Listen to your elders!
Oh how I understand this one!
I still do it, and do you know, I used to cry a little every time I gave myself a treat, like on s stinking hot day, taking a cold beer from the fridge I would sniff back a tear!
Of course for we on a budget, and I have read about your situation and your new job (congratulations), eating the oldest first means we don't throw it out next day. and we cannot afford to throw away food!
But Suz is right about pampering your body, feel good and smell good for others and for yourself. And do use the fluffy towel, all the time telling yourself "I deserve this!"

PS. I went to post this comment and came up against that word recognition crap. What 'robot' is about to comment on your blog? For me, it is hard to read and takes up too much precious time. I suggest you enable your junk mail filter and risk the occasional 'troll'. After all the word recognition filter does not keep trolls away anyhow. I'll be back.
